Description

Penistone Line Partnership is a not-for-profit community rail organisation and a member of the Community Rail Network.

We promote and encourage greater use of the train through engagement with local communities between and within Sheffield, Barnsley, and Huddersfield.

The Penistone Line incorporates 17 stations along the 27- mile scenic route.

We deliver a range of projects and activities on the train, at stations and in the areas near the Penistone Line to provide social, environmental, and economic benefits to the region’s residents and visitors. We also educate young people on rail safety, trespass, sustainability, and promote career opportunities in the rail industry.

Penistone Line Partnership’s aims are to deliver the 4 pillars of the Community Rail Strategy

  • Providing a voice for the community
  • Promoting sustainable, healthy, and accessible travel
  • Bringing communities together and supporting diversity and inclusion
  • Supporting social and economic development

Strategic aims and objectives of the community rail partnership can be viewed within the Government’s Connecting communities with the railways: The Community Rail Development Strategy »

Volunteer with us

Penistone Line Partnership would love to connect with people in local communities along the line.

Can you help us with one of the following volunteer roles? If so we would love to hear from you. Volunteering is great for learning new skills, general wellbeing, and meeting new friends, we encourage both young and older people to get involved.

We need help with:

  • Gardening/planting/eco-friendly projects
  • Station Adoption
  • Event support
  • Village and platform noticeboard information
  • Social media and newsletter contribution
  • Project support/installation/crafting/artwork/decoration
  • Heritage/History & Archive projects
  • Walking Group Guides

Please get in touch with our Community Rail Officer, Sarah Wells, at 07450807953 or email penistoneline@gmail.com

Tell us about the activities you enjoy, and your availability if you think you could volunteer within Community Rail.

There is so much to visit and see at each station, we also have guided walks between stations. It's a great day out! We need volunteers for opportunities which vary from looking after stations, to delivering timetables and information. We also need people to adopt a station along the line, which involves looking after planters, feeding back on vandalism or repairs etc.

We are now a Dementia Friend too.
